Archiving Policy
Al-Mujtama: Journal of Islamic Law and Society is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation and accessibility of all published scholarly content. To this end, the journal participates in multiple digital archiving programs, including LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS), which enable libraries and institutions worldwide to create permanent archives of the journal's content for purposes of scholarly preservation. In addition, all articles published in Al-Mujtama are archived in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), which provides decentralized digital preservation through a network of participating institutions. These archiving arrangements ensure that the journal's scholarly output remains permanently accessible to the global academic community, even in the event of journal discontinuation or technical failure.
All published content in Al-Mujtama is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) through Crossref, ensuring persistent and stable linking to each article. Authors are also encouraged to self-archive their final published versions (Version of Record) in institutional repositories, personal academic profiles, and subject-specific repositories such as Google Scholar and Academia.edu. The journal fully supports open access archiving practices in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), allowing unrestricted access to, and redistribution of, its published works under the applicable Creative Commons license. These measures collectively safeguard the integrity, discoverability, and long-term usability of all research published by Al-Mujtama.
In the event that Al-Mujtama: Journal of Islamic Law and Society ceases publication or undergoes a significant change in publishing platform, all archived content will remain accessible through its participating archiving networks and partner institutions. The journal's editorial board, in coordination with its publisher, shall take all necessary steps to transfer digital assets, metadata, and full-text content to a designated custodian institution or trusted digital repository. Authors, readers, and subscribing institutions will be duly notified of any such transition, and access to the journal's full archive will be maintained without interruption. This commitment to responsible archiving reflects Al-Mujtama's dedication to the principles of scholarly transparency, academic continuity, and the preservation of knowledge in the field of Islamic law and society.
